Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) causes embarrassment to those suffering from it. What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive underarm sweating. People suffering from this condition deal with the concern of constant perspiration as well as the clothing stains and even unpleasant body odor that accompanies it. Hyperhidrosis is a real struggle for those who deal with it.
How is Hyperhidrosis Treated?
There are several treatments that diminish or resolve the issues that accompany hyperhidrosis. At Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute, Jill Waibel, MD, FAAD, and the other board-certified dermatologists treat hyperhidrosis with miraDry®.
miraDry® is a state-of-the-art technology FDA approved to treat excessive perspiration by eliminating the underarm sweat glands. Once complete, people with hyperhidrosis can enjoy a life free of underarm perspiration.
Benefits of Hyperhidrosis Treatments
miraDry® is an FDA-approved treatment for hyperhidrosis and provides the following benefits:
- Quick, non-invasive in-office treatment
- Virtually no discomfort during treatment
- Little or no downtime
- No need to apply deodorant
How Does miraDry® Work?
Using microwave energy, miraDry® targets and eliminates underarm sweat glands. This is accomplished when a handheld device is placed over the underarm area suctioning up sweat glands to the surface of the skin. Once this happens, microwave energy penetrates the skin to destroy the glands. The treatments take about one hour to complete and involve little to no discomfort. For those who may experience mild pain or a burning sensation, a numbing cream will be applied.
