What is Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm® is a dermal filler containing hyaluronic acid. It is formulated to smooth the skin by boosting collagen production to fill in fine lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvedérm®, are the gold standard of fillers currently available. There is a line of dermal fillers under the Juvéderm® umbrella developed to treat specific areas of the face. Each filler uses hyaluronic acid, a substance produced by the body to give skin its moisture. When injected into the areas, the skin gradually plumps and smooths the signs of aging.
Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute uses the following Juvéderm® fillers to diminish the signs of aging:
- Juvéderm® Voluma® – Voluma® is FDA approved to add volume to the skin in the midface area that sags or looks hollow as we age. It boosts collagen production in the deeper layers of facial skin to fill out the midface and cheek areas with results lasting up to two years.
- Juvéderm® Volbella® – Volbella® is the newest filler of the Juvéderm® family. It is FDA approved to add volume to the lips and areas around them. Dermatologists use it as an alternative to invasive lip augmentation procedures. The results from Volbella® are natural looking fuller lips and smoother skin around the lips. The results typically last up to a year for most people.
- Juvéderm® Vollure™ – More prominent lines and folds, especially those around the nose and mouth, are effectively diminished or erased with Juvéderm® Vollure™. Vollure™ treatments usually last up to 18 months.
Benefits of Juvéderm®
Juvéderm® fillers contain hyaluronic acid (HA), which increases the moisture in the skin. Dermatologists choose Juvéderm fillers because they offer other benefits including:
- Little to no risk of an adverse skin reaction
- Safe for all skin types
- Long lasting
- Minimal or no discomfort
- No downtime or recovery
How is Juvéderm® Administered?
When administering any of the Juvéderm® products, dermatologists inject the selected filler into the targeted area and gently massage to spread the gel around the area being treated. Since Juvéderm® contains lidocaine, there is no risk of any discomfort; however, topical numbing cream may be applied to the skin to relieve any anxiety. Immediately following the treatment, patients return to their normal daily activities. Any side effects, such as redness or swelling around the injection site, resolve themselves within 24 hours.
What Should I Expect from Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm® products increase collagen production causing the full results to improve over a few weeks. These results last from one to two years depending on the filler used. As with any filler, maintenance treatments are recommended to keep a smoother complexion and younger looking appearance.
Am I a Good Candidate for Juvéderm®?
