Varicose Vein Treatment in Miami, FL

People suffering from varicose veins may be self-conscious about whether they are noticeable. At Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute, Jill Waibel, MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist, uses laser treatments to diminish or eliminate the appearance of varicose veins on men and women living in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Kendall, FL, and neighboring communities.

What are Vein Treatments?

Veins are simply enlarged veins that rise to the surface and become visible. About a quarter of the population suffers from varicose veins, and they are most often noticeable in the feet and legs. This is thought to be attributed to the fact that because the legs undergo a lot of pressure from standing and walking, the blood pumped into your legs must go back up. To prevent any back flow, there are valves in the veins; these veins may fail to close completely, which may result in blood pooling and ultimately bulging. For some, varicose veins cause a lot of pain when standing or walking.

The dermatologists at Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute use sclerotherapy and other state-of-the-art laser treatments to diminish or eliminate varicose veins. The method used to treat them is customized to each patient’s needs.

Benefits of Vein Treatments

Not only do laser treatments for veins provide relief from the pain they cause, they also provide the following benefits:

  • Prevention of more extensive vein related issues
  • Less discomfort during the treatments
  • More self-confidence
  • Minimally invasive treatment

How are Vein Treatments Performed?

Vein treatments are performed at Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute using several methods, including sclerotherapy and laser treatments. As one of the most state-of-the-art dermatology practices, we use pulsed dye lasers and vascular lasers to destroy blood vessels in the skin. This is done by delivering energy to the targeted area. The energy is absorbed by blood vessels and other vascular lesions to diminish or eliminate them. It may be necessary to have multiple treatments to achieve optimal results.

What Should I Expect from Vein Treatments?

Once the treatments are complete, the vein typically disappears and may not return at all or at least for a long period. In rare instances, the body may reopen the vessel before it has been fully absorbed by the body. It may also only partially respond to laser vein treatments. If these instances take place, it is typically because the factors causing veins do not change.
